Johannesburg Pride 2019 was Rocking, Real and Relevant with Massiv Metro broadcasting Pan-African show #55Unlocked from the colourful occasion.
Held at Johannesburg Pride’s new home, Sandton City, the annual event saw members of the LGBTQ+ community boldly showing off their true and authentic selves in line with their theme for this year “The Pride of Africa – Authentically You”.
The occasion also served to launch the new Pride flag, which was inspired by all the countries of Africa; and also served as a big celebration for the organisation’s 30 years in existence – the longest running Pride event on the continent.
In a statement on their website, the organisation said “over the last three decades, Johannesburg Pride has advocated for inclusion of all African LGBTQ+ identities”.
The annual Johannesburg Pride march kicked off at 14:00 in Sandton CBD and spread rainbow colours all over the streets of the luxurious suburb. Celebrities such as Somizi, Kim Jayde, Mr Gay South Africa 2019 (Chris Emmanuel) were some of the personalities who attended the Pride which was one helluva party with a hot DJ line-up which kept everyone dancing away during the celebrations.
Massiv Metro’s Kamo Moth, your Absolute Fav, was also in the mix and had the time of her life celebrating authenticity and African Pride. “I had no idea that it was such a big deal,” she said of her first Johannesburg Pride experience.
“Definitely something I want to do again especially because I missed the fashion memo which was ‘go big or go home’. It was such a dope environment to be yourself without a care in the world,” she added.
Additionally, the Pride Village was set up just outside the mall, where, you could pick up a variety of refreshments to keep you marching proudly through the streets.
The day was undoubtedly a happy one, full of Pride, fashion and love for everyone in their authentic forms.
